The couples I work with are typically highly intelligent, hard working and saavy when it comes to wedding planning. They care about the tiniest details of their special day; from the wedding officiant they choose (ahem) right down to the exact time the sun will set on all their bridal splendor (great for photographer to know!). I love how each bride has her own vision for the wedding day, while the groom quickly aligns his wishes with hers. It's all fun, and special and, well, stressful.
Having high expectations for your wedding day is normal. If my couples didn't care so much, I would probably wonder if something was wrong. But sometimes planning the big day can cause so much stress that the angst overshadows the joy. When the color of the tablecloths or the song choices you've made are keeping you up at night, it's time to regroup. I like to call this kind of pressure "luxury stress". It's like worrying if you picked the right five star hotel or designer handbag. Luxuries. If you're feeling this kind of pressure, it's important to keep things in perspective. Although this is a turning point in your life, it should not be viewed as a crisis. Enjoy the process as much as you possibly can without getting caught up in what may go wrong.
Talking to your officiant, choosing the menu, going to dress fittings.. these events are all part of your wedding. Someday you'll look back at these days and remember putting all the pieces of this amazing celebration together. Please try to enjoy this amazing time in your life.
